If he didn't play with a lot of passion I doubt he would ranked as highly as he was. I've never read any concerns about his passion for the game.
Isn't it possible that he is simply a quiet leader who leads by example? In the playoffs he carried the Ice (the underdogs) past the Hitmen and elevated his game when it mattered.
Just because his dad's demeanor was that doesn't necessarily make it a reflection of his son's. I don't disagree with your preference for the other two over him, but I've never heard questions about passion.
