Its actually a bit of a two-way street. Liverpool obviously never wanted to sell him, and that ship has now likely sailed.
Losing him for a lot of matches does suck, but really, thats nothing that anyone can do anything about and Sturridge and some of the new signings will have to carry the mail for a bit.
But, when he comes back from suspension, if he puts together a season similar to last year and goes without biting anyone its hard to complain. Hes crazy, but hes incredibly good.
