I can't speak for 1986, but I feel diving has been an almost nonexistant problem in these games.

Which is why I find it odd and somewhat frustrating that people complain about it constantly.

I mean there was just no way you don't call a penalty kick on that. Samaras clearly intended to kick the ball from a great scoring position, but couldn't because his back leg was clipped by the defender behind him. 1986 or 2014, accident or not, that's a penalty.

Now the 2002 games, those were ridiculous diving games, (despite some great soccer).

Rivaldo was doing stuff like that all tournament along, and the rest of the Brazilians were almost as bad.

Nothing so far has been even close to what the actually bad times were around the end of the nineties and early 00's.
