Umm... if Bennett wasn't aware and didn't prepare for the specific technique that was mandated that's all on him. There is zero excuse. I don't think any draft eligible player had the right to claim "surprise" at the tests and techniques mandated unless I am mistaken and the tests and techniques mandated were kept secret.
I don't think executing a pull up should be way down the list of things a draft eligible player should be spending time on at all. A pull up is one of the best exercises you can do to strengthen your grip and back muscles besides the deadlift. If you work out you should know. With that said, it is an advanced strength exercise that is difficult to do. Again, there's no need to excuse Bennett for his failure to perform a pull up. He needs to add strength and his inability to do a pull up at the combine has no bearing on his ability to develop into an effective NHL player.
