JJ's Star Trek productions showed that he's not concerned about the legacy of a franchise, but looks to make a whiz-bang popcorn movie that's satisfying in the moment to the broadest base but has little in the way of lasting depth or thoughtful themes.
Dragging back every old actor from the original and filling it with countless cameos says to me he's more concerned with the opening weekend box office than setting a base for a whole new Star Wars that does justice to the original two movies.
