Even with that the refs get it right 95% of the time. They do need to offer some help the other 5% of the time though.

Most TV broadcasts can figure out if a play's offside within 10 seconds. Just replace the ref's assistant with a guy watching TV with a buzzer to the ref. Buzzer = offside. No buzzer = onside. Play is never whistled down from the pitch.
