I say this on another site.

It is an installation on the ice to indicate to players that the boards are coming, kind of like a warning track in Baseball.

I believe they are going on all rinks in Massachusetts, and I looks like the GTA is think about using them:

Thoughts?

I think this could be a useful tool for both youth and senior hockey.
