Although it was anecdotal a few years ago, a colleague of mine at the City told me how there was a proposal submitted by a community group to the City to have a gated, Muslim-only community in Calgary. They used Chinatown as their precedent (the two are nowhere near similar). The City nixed that promptly.
The minute we start creating community silos based on religious grounds we are really running down a dangerous path.
I'm with Cap, I want integration to be a central objective for new Canadians. Not sure how to successfully guarantee that though.
