At 4M per year AAV. He massively outperforms his team (not that that's hard), and is a power play asset. At this point, if you get a #4 guy for four million against the cap you're doing pretty well. Ehrhoff is a #2. If he declines, which he probably will, the deal might not be very good for a few years, but by then the cap should go up such that his AAV will be the equivalent of maybe $3M in today's cap dollars, so it might still end up being fair.
Fancy stats suggest that he's a very good defenseman on an awful team. These are last year's numbers but nonetheless, with Ehrhoff on the ice, Buffalo was elite in terms of possession (over 51%), without him they were historically terrible (38%ish). This year, he had a PDO of 970 and still posted a Corsi Rel of 9.6.
If I were I playoff team I'd take that contract on any day of the week.
