Was watching the game, but couldn't handle watching any more, so I got to some number crunching!
I took all the rosters from last season and so far this offseason, and did some OV calculations, and compared.
I took the best 12 forwards, 6 defencemen and 2 goaltenders, and did an
average OV calculation.
Obviously, OV is not everything, but it's interesting to look at regardless!
Some observations:
- good to see that the bottom five teams in the standings last season are in the top ten ranking of the best gains in OV
- Boston and Atlanta... two of the oldest teams from last season, had the biggest drops in OV's since the season ended... could times be changing?
- Looks to me like there is a shift in power now... Gretzky was the traditional dominating conference for many seasons, but it seems like the Howe is making huge strides this year (no thanks to Becky obviously
)
