Yeah, Garcetti was pretty funny with the f-bomb.
I went to the rally today, mostly just to say congrats to Darryl and Reggie. Reggie definitely won the award for worst hat, and Darryl proved once again what an honorable guy he is.
After the speeches were finished, the players (still on the ice) and fans watched about 15 minutes of clips from each of the four series on the jumbotron. I noticed Darryl left his spot on the podium right when the video was starting and quietly walked over to where Chris was sitting (penalty box area); Darryl just hung out with Chris the whole time, basically allowing the spotlight to be on the players. He didn't even get in the last group photo with the Cup, instead he kept hanging out with Chris.
It's hard to overstate just how out of place Darryl is in a place like LA. While so many folks in this city are looking for fame and notoriety by any means necessary, Darryl would just rather be back on the farm close to family. He reminds me so much of all the hard-working yet extraordinarily humble Alberta folks that I grew up with before I moved to the US.
As out of place as he is here, though, the people love him. Sutter easily got the loudest and longest cheer (standing ovation) of anybody on the podium.
