The saving grace for the pipeline might be the absence of a legitimate opposition party in BC. The Liberals proved in the last election they can do whatever they want, so they might push for it despite vocal opposition.
It ain't popular in BC though, and it's not just First Nations that are displeased with the idea.

NDP are a strong leader away from being in power for 10 - 15 years in BC. Liberals can't keep playing with fire with doing stuff that smacks directly into the face of the voters.
If the people don't want it, the Liberals will put it to a referendum so they don't have to make a choice.
