They are the two best players on an elite team. Why should they take less so the team can pay Leddy and Rozsival (the guys you mention as poor depth) $4.9/million.
The Penguins problem isn't paying Malkin and Crosby big bucks... its paying $8.3 million for an average goalie (Fleury) and an overhill defenseman (Scuderi).
The Kings had/have two guys over $7M (Doughty/Gaborik), and 4 other guys over $5M (Quick, Kopitar, Brown, Richards and Carter). Its not like they are full of guys taking discounts. The two guys who are underpaid (Doughty/Kopitar) signed a long while back and weren't big discounts)
