LA barely got past Chicago too, and got taken out by them last year. Toews and Kane can still afford to get paid, and there is enough money left for the Blackhawks to still put a pretty balanced team around them. It's not like Kopitar or Doughty took fewer dollars to stay with the Kings when they signed their deals, and Jonathan Quick has a nice long contract on top of that term they still have committed to Richards and Carter.
If Kane and Toews don't take the money....someone else on that Hawks team who does a lot less will be overpaid to stick around.
