They have some Louis Garneau trail and mountain shorts that are probably good, just wanted to hear if there is anything to look out for specificaaly for fabric or design.

Those shorts will work, I do not like the fit of LG stuff, but that being said I am a big guy......I like the diaspora stuff sportchek sells, and the also carry some nice north face baggy bike shorts.
Mec Iliad shorts are also comfy and you will want to have spandex under them....
