Wideman and Jones would be prome candidates if the Flames had cap issues and/or were close to competing but since the Flames need contracts to reach the floor and can live with the little to nothing that both guys bring might as well keep them around this year to reach the floor.
Wideman looked like a nightmare out there with the big minutes so just because he played them does not mean that it was a good thing for the Flames or that he helped the team. He was often out there for 2 full minutes while the PP failed to generate anything. At best he should see maybe 5-8 minutes ES and then play on the PP but even his PP effectiveness has been pretty poor lately (a lot of missed shots and trouble holding the line). The probelm with that is putting him and Smid together would be like a dream for any forward with speed as neither guy can handle guys going to the outside around them.
No point in buying guys out at this point and unlikely we get much, if anything, to take a big ticket guy off another team to buyout.
