LOL, you are totally the hipster know-it-all guy that every single LBS employee loathes. Where do you get your information?
a) 6066 is 40% stronger than 6061, I would call that significant.
b) Pro MTB and downhill riders have used aluminum frames for decades, and many still do. Frames snapping and puncturing legs is ridiculously uncommon. In fact I think your friend is a first. How the hell does a road bike spontaneously snap in half and puncture your leg unless you are riding it like a BMX?
c) Why do i give a crap how 'dent resistant' or skate park worthy a frikkin 700c commuter is? Oh wait lemme guess. You're all edgy, and bang your bike up to make it look all weathered and cooler..... I guess if I abused my stuff like that, it would be a useful feature.
d) Professional motocross bikes are built out of aluminum, and take 10X the abuse of a downhill bike.
There are guys on this forum that ride much more, and much more abusive than you, on old aluminum frames, and thats a fact... And they are still 100% in tact. Oh wait. Lemme guess, you ride your 55 pound, recumbent, west coast chopper, banana seat e-bike in world class downhill competitions, and post world record descent times.
