This is my 4 year old, carbon forked, $1500 aluminum commuter with about 9-10,000 kms on it. It is as good as the day I started building it, and I expect it to last me another decade. And it has experienced hundreds of rim bending Calgary potholes. There are some incredibly durable Aluminum frames if you buy from the right manufacturer. 6061 T6 is as strong as chromoly, outside of throwing it off a building.
