Let alone the fact it has no gearing. And also, you claim you built it like that for durability, and to handle potholes. There are guys out there with 20 year old chromoly frame bikes that pedal every day 7/365, and their bikes handle it fine. The best of the best on 16 pound, pro level, carbon road bikes have trouble averaging speeds like that in an urban setting once you factor in hills. If you are averaging 40 KPH that means you are peddling it, without assist, on flats at around 60 KPH.

Also, why don't you check out the Tesla thread for my opinion on alt energy. I am in the frikkin car business, and I desperately want electric cars to come out en masse.... even though it will probably cut my income in half.

And, how do you know how much I drive and ride? A lot of assumptions being made there. I average 300 K/week through the riding season. Maybe not quite as much as you, but at least I am powering each and every click.
Not bull##it elite road cyclists may produce 1,600 to 1,700 watts which means the expell 1.5 to 1.70 HP of powet half of an electric motor bike and 1/3 of what me and that motor put together. For a guy with as many health problems as I have I'm a cyclist. Yes I know all about Tesla motors no need to read it. My buddy is a engineer there. They battery I'm using is based of a similar design and the same Panasonic "A" 18650 cells they use. I'm being defensive because I have good reason to have the assist based on my needs. And your a car guy and a road biker that sees a threat to his job and his hobby. Also I'm not traveling in an urban setting I'm ttavillimg on a flat 8 foot wide trail. The lochsidebtrail from Victoria to Sidney.

Edit. I just saw your edit so.. I could again those on that bike because of the semi- recumbent position. Its only because I have had recent health issues I've had the assist has made it easier than opting for a old persons scooter and not keeping active. I respect your opinion but to jump all over me that Its not a bicycle is contrary to what Icbc and the government has set otherwise. Those chromoly bikes do just fine because like you said and I already stated the problem is ALUMINUM BIKES ARE THE ONES THAT CANT HANDLE IT. There stiff with no give they snap before they flex.
