There are a bunch of morons on twitter, and I'm sure other places as well, that are saying that August 2014 has 5 Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. That part is true, but they are saying this phenomenon only happens every 823 years. Have these people never looked at a calendar?

There are only seven different days a calendar can start on. Most years are 365 days and leap years are 366 days. This means there are only 14 different variations of our calendar. What are the odds that one of these isn't used for 822 straight years?

In order for a month to have 5 Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, it has to have 31 days and the 1st has to be a Friday. This happens at least once a year. The last time this "phenomenom" happened was March 2013. The next after August 2014 is May 2015. If they were trying to be technical and say they meant the 5 Fridays, Saturdays and Sunday happening was specific to August, look no further than August 2025.

It GMGs when someone tweets it and then others retweet it with something like. OMG Epic! So glad I'm alive for it.

I guess it leads me to my favourite quote by Abraham Lincoln, "You can't believe everything you read on the internet."
