At my LBS they were saying you are going to see many more high end road bikes with disc brakes coming out in the near future. They are finding with the high speeds people are going, especially downhill, that the V brakes aren't as safe. Disc brakes offer more control and power, through a much wider range of weather than the V brakes. A big concern with V brakes is them overheating during a long downhill run, and becoming useless.
