Not sure if it's the case, but a lot of GMs use this flimsy little plastic clip to hold the lock cylinder in place and it's prone to breakage. I found the cylinder of my old Jimmy in the bootom of the door. Cheap fix though.
Granted it won't help you at the moment, but that may be all it is.

The AMA guy mentioned that the problem might be with the clip so I'll have to check that this weekend.

My vehicle is on the list of ignition cylinder recalls but it will be a while before it can be fixed. The dealership said not to anticipate having the recall work done until the end of the summer due to the shortage of parts and the immense number of vehicles involved.
