So, in the situation where Johnny Hockey out plays David Jones, but the Flames feel Gaudreau would be better served by spending a year in the minors, then that's what they should do, and they should have David Jones take up the roster spot if there are no other veteran options or prospects that would be served best for their development in the NHL to take it.
It's the whole Sven thing again. The team was felt Sven should spend time in the minors to make him the better player long term and fans on this board got all bent out of shape because it wasn't "fair" because certain veteran players got to stay in the NHL and play and Sven didn't. It's not about "fair", it's about making the Flames the best team they can be 4 years from now.

I bet if Monahan was eligible for the AHL they would have sent him down, there's nothing saying if Johnny goes down to the Baby Flames that they can't give call ups, to me giving a guy a call up from the minors is a compliment to show they ahve trust in you (And they needed to fill a spot but gave it to X player over Y player).
