By the sounds of it, I think Burke will want to utilize 2 guys that are in the heavyweight class at least as an option against certain teams. It is tough to argue with the product on the ice after that acquisition last year, of which I was not a fan of to begin with. Team did pretty well.

Pretty much this. Just sign the guy to a 1 year, 1m contract, it's not like any of us want him to a long term deal. He can be the 13/14th man, he doesn't even have to be playing unless someone gets injured or not earning their spot. When Jones was down last year, Brian got 3rd line minutes and Kevin got the 4th line RW spot. I saw no problem with it.
