Oil and Gas is the main driver of everything in Alberta. The vast majority of people don't move to Calgary for the climate, proximity to the mountains, etc. They move there for the jobs. The jobs are there because of Oil and Gas.
If other drivers were even close to as important as jobs then Kelowna would have $3.5 million people.
If it weren't for Oil and Gas Edmonton and Calgary would be closer to Regina and Saskatoon then they are to Vancouver and Toronto.
