My take is the Flames have some guys that could top out as second pairing - and probably more realistically a lot of guys with #5/#6 potential. I think Wotherspoon could end up being better than some think - but still isn't going to be a first pairing guy on a good team.
So that's the issue - the organization doesn't have a single dman prospect with top pairing upside.
That needs to be addressed - Ekblad would do that - but I doubt the Flames get him. So I agree with taking a forward at 4 and then dmen in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.
They should also be exploring prospect for prospect deals - something like Sven for a dman that has fallen out of favor in another organization. Not that I want to move Sven - but directionally that type of deal.
