Perhaps for parts of the game, but how many wide open courts did Genie miss by going wide or slamming it into the net? Lots. That's not some sort of strategy of Sharapova's, that's just Genie falling apart as the match went on.

She's still young, she has a great future, so hopefully this is just a learning experience......still an awesome result. She'll win a slam sooner or later.

I just wish announcers would be a little more honest when recapping a match. They didn't have to slam Genie, but instead of saying what Maria did, perhaps spend a couple seconds mentioning that Genie was the better player for a large part of the match but some missed opportunities led to Sharapova winning.
