FLIR (forward looking infrared) is a very effective way to track in open environments, but it's limited as soon as there's lots of stuff to disrupt heat signatures.

I've watched a couple of FLIR videos where even thick trees have obscured a person completely, and there's no chance of seeing someone in a well built structure or one that throws off its own heat. In the wide open though it's incredible how clear the video can be. People running in FLIR always reminds me of that old Lode Runner video game.

Do they have an idea of where the shooter might be, or has he escaped at this point?
