Personally with all of the animosity, I wish KISS would have declined the nomination. I would have been more badass to tell the HOF to stuff it. The only reason they agreed to it was for the fans nothing else. Paul and Gene have both stated, even in the hours leading up to the induction, how stupid the whole RRHOF system is, and how ridiculous the nomination process is. IMHO KISS is bigger than the HOF.
Love them or hate them. Outside of The Beatles, there isn't a more deserving act to be in there. Everyone knows KISS isn't about incredibly talented musicians. They are mediocre, at best. But they are the definition of Rock and Roll. Fun, Loud, Over the top, Cheesy, Bigger than life. As bad as they sound now, they are still a spectacle to behold live. They don't hide the fact their voices are falling apart, or they can't pull off every riff with perfection anymore. But they go up on stage and give 100% every time you see them, and still whip the crowd into a frenzy. Without backing tracks or lip syncing. They are the real deal, not a manufactured in a boardroom by committee act like so many musicians today.
I was really hoping they were going to go up on stage and politely decline the induction. But after Tom Morrello's speech, how could they?
