Stay right where we are please Brad and Brian. If Edmonton stay at #3 and draft Draisaitl as expected, no matter who ends up with the 1st and 2nd overall picks, be it Florida and Buffalo, or Toronto, Vancouver, whoever, we will still draft Bennett, Reinhart or Ekblad. I'm confident any of the 3 could go on to become an excellent player for us. There simply isn't value in trading up IMO. The only exception I would make is if we pulled off a deal that was agreed to be very favourable to us. I'm no expert, I couldn't begin to wonder what sort of package we could out together to get the first that wouldn't harm us in the long run. I'm not keen on losing any of the vets, however inconsistent they are. That includes Smid, Jiri, Glencross, Gio etc. I also don't want to trade any of the prospects. The likes of Sven need another year before we get a good idea if his development is progressing as expected or he is going backwards. Take him out of the picture and i don't want to see us trade up by losing an already decent first rounder, a solid 2nd, a 3rd and any of the above players. We have a good group here. Decent vets. Promising prospects. A solid back room team, including Brad, Brian and Bob.
If it was MacKinnon or McDavid available then yes, but the fact Florida and Buffalo are giving them away shows for me that the price we would have to pay to get the first overall IMO just isn't worth it. Let's stay calm for these next few weeks, let all the others squabble over who gets what pick. We keep the 4th, draft a quality player with the minimal amount of fuss and walk away with our dignity intact.
