Ouch. sorry to hear that. Celiac isn't fun but at least it didn't get mis-diagnosed.

Sorry didn't catch your edit before about eating too much gluten and getting beer belly or something. Same can be pretty much said for eating too much of anything though.

I say the word fad in this situation because it's not necessarily healthier. Gluten isn't bad for you unless you have an intolerance to it. Going Gluten free if you don't need it can be even worse if you're not careful, since a lot of food containing gluten also contains other essential vitamins that you now have to get elsewhere. Some gluten free food is so processed it's scary.

Slippery slope. If you're celiac or have some other professionally diagnosed intolerance or allergy, then by all means eat gluten free, hopefully the hipsters and idiots move onto the next thing and stop giving you a bad rap.
