Honestly, knowing what type of poster you are I'm not going to be able to convince you of the roles masculinity, misogyny, etc., play in violence against women. You either do the research and accept that it does or do the research and come up with alternative theories (although I've yet to see anyone who's actually done the research do this), or alternatively you can bullishly go on with the opinion that these things aren't factors, while continuously getting offended whenever anyone challenges the cultural norms that contribute to these issues, because it's inconvenient to your amusement to acknowledge them.
However, what you claim to be "white-knighting" is actually just people refusing to be bystanders. In the same way that people get pissed off about racist remarks and homophobic garbage, there are a lot of us who feel just as strongly about the nonsense that gets spewed towards/about women. And to be honest, this thread hasn't been as horrible as other threads on CP in regards to misogynist comments.
What originally got this thread off track was me just being tired of seeing the same regurgitated material that's become so standard in any thread about women on CP. It's like those old guys around the office who still make Brokeback Mountain jokes or insinuate someone "might be one of them fancy boys" because they think it's hilarious, when really it's pretty tired and unoriginal at this point, and mostly just makes the younger generation roll their eyes.
So, no, I don't think the internet is serious business. As many people have pointed out, my avatar is from a web comic with a pretty twisted sense of humour. I just don't find a lot of this stuff all that funny. It's just really lame.
EDIT: And some of the original posts were funny. There was just a lot of lameness sprinkled in with them.
