One thing I will say, while it's fairly easy to strike up a conversation with a girl (at least in my case), I remember the challenge was escalating it to the point where I felt I could ask for a number. I was never a fan of being rejected so I'd rather leave and assume I could have rather than confirm I couldn't.
I had no problem flirting with women, but pretty bad at receiving signals.
