Is it just a Calgary thing?

#YYC as a hashtag originated on Twitter as it served a decent stand in for Calgary within the 140 character limit. Basically when Twitter was exploding in popularity locally it became a short/easy way to connect with local folks online.
For other airport codes I think it's much the same, easier to type YVR then Vancouver on your phone, and if you're flying into the airport it's entirly accurate to say something like
"#YYC->#YVR this afternoon!"
Plus some of us just think it looks/sounds cool.
