I have a couple hundred rounds of .45 acp just ball ammo for target and 350 rounds of 9mm ball ammo for target.

The reason why a lot people have "stockpiles" of ammo is because most don't shoot a box of ammo at the range and go home. Instead of buying $200 in ammo at one time they buy it over periods.
Sure, still don't see the need for the amount you have. I have to buy supplies to camping or hunting no reason the amount of ammo need couldn't be purchased at said time.

Wasn't Chris Rock that alluded to fixing the gun crime with jacking up the costs of bullets in a comedy act? Basically make a bullet cost $5000 so people will be a little more mindful of what they do with them. I think this was more around drive bys but the point could still apply.

I get guns as a hobby and gun club would make perfect sense. As far as hunting goes I think a select few rifles with appropriate magazines would suffice.

Probably saw it on twitter but I thought I read that there have already been 4100 guns deaths in America this year?
