Yeah but the goal isn't to get you and I to watch all the time, or to draw the most viewers. The original goal (made a little sketchy by the inclusion of commercials of course) is to appeal to all Canadians with a wide variety of programming. The mandate, and it might even be a "law" outlined in the Canadian Broadcasting Act, is to air diverse programming that appeals to everyone and not just to Alberta hockey-nerds like you and I.

Come to think of it, I think there has been some amount of griping about the CBC showing too much hockey.

I think they do that, but not many people watch it. Some people do though and that's the point of CBC.
