Citizens of Kazakhstan are
Kazakhs – a dominant ethnicity of Buddhist/Mongol origin living in Kazakhstan.
Kazaks (or Kossacks, as they are often spelled in English) – is an artificial ethnicity formed by serf-runaways of predominantly Russian and Ukrainian orthodox Christians escaping feudal estates in 1700-1800's. They formed settlements near Russia's border outposts and were eventually forgiven by tsar's decree for offering military protection services to the crown in exchange for special freedoms and privileges. Kazaks were also used by tsars as special cavalry guard and played a brutal role in bloody pogroms during Russian Revolution and Civil War years in early 1900's.
Only one letter, but a lot of difference between the two.
