We had a motorcycle fatality here last week while I was out of town on vacation. Kid with his girlfriend on the back was doing 130 mph down a city street in an industrial area. Semi pulled out because he saw the headlight way the heck down the street and the speed limit was 40 mph. Needless to say, by the time he got his rig heading the same direction the bike was on him and hit him. Helmets were irrelevant. Driver dead at the scene, girlfriend DOA. Dumb, dumb, dumb. 23 years old and 21 years old. DONE. Now this poor truck driver has to spend the rest of his life wondering what he could've done when it just isn't his fault at all.
I think perceived invincibility is a huge factor in all accidents.
