Let's be honest here...how many players in the last few years have flourished in Toronto? The media eats them up and spits them out, and that's where we as fans get our information. Who are we to judge a guys character when we don't have first hand knowledge. Toronto would be the last place I'd want to go as a player.

I think if put in the right situation Phaneuf would be a good addition to the Flames regardless of his contract. I think we can all agree that the bad part of the contract is the term right? I am interested to hear if the term was 4 or 5 years on his contract , would the opinions would be different?

If the Leafs are expecting Phaneuf to be a rock solid stay at home defenseman, they are crazy. The Leafs put him into situations where he doesn't excel and were hoping for the best. He is an obvious OFD with a great shot from the point and can deliver big hits. I still feel if he was put with a solid DFD he could do well.
