My general impressions are that Dion Phaneuf stands for himself first and foremost before the team. He wants to be "the man" and wants to be idolized, reflective in his style of play and overall demeanor. He doesn't seem like a good selection to be a team captain but would be an ideal 3-4 defenceman that you could utilize as a PP specialist. At his price tag that would be horrific cap management, not to mention the Leafs are going to want a kings ransom in a trade because they're probably deluding themselves into thinking he is something more than an albatross liability on the defensive side of the puck as they sit around and drink their koolaid, and read their media's hype on their team.
He seems like the type of guy that is quite cocky and arrogant and would be a bad mix for the team first culture the Flames worked hard to embrace last season.
