I'd be happy for Edmonton to get him if they drastically overpay.
I'd be happy for the Flames to get him if we drastically underpay, and Gio said he was ok with it (he knows best what Dion would be like in the room).
Dion can be a good defenceman if not in the prime number 1 spot. With the Flames (assuming his attitude was different than when he was traded from here in the first place AND Gio vouches for him) he'd slot onto the second pairing theoretically, giving us:
Gio - TJ
Dion - Russel
Smid - ?? (one of Butler, Wotherspoon, Breen, someone else).
We trade Wideman and something - if it is a good something Leafs retain salary. That's a solid D.
On Edmonton, Dion immediately becomes their best defenceman and slots in on the prime number 1 slot, a spot he has shown in TO that he is not best suited for. If the Coilers have to overpay to get him, then put him in that position to fail, knowing that they already have a weak locker room - well, that's a recipe for amusement.
