Denver is a good example:
Pop of Denver is around 650,000
Pop Of Metro/Greater Denver is around 3,000,000
I once heard a stat that the City if London increased in population by a couple of million people during the work day (I have no source from this, other than the cockney fella that bought me a pint).

You know what else is a great example? Detroit.
Its a fairly simple concept: People cannot reap benefit and use the resources of Point A to then simply to take those benefits away from Point A and apply them to Point B.
Its an unsustainable model over the long-term for Point A.
