Yeah, when book 4 was delayed because "it got too big" I figured a) It can't be much longer now - it is written and they are just dissecting it for easier publishing and b) book 5 shouldn't be that much longer either.
Boy was I wrong.
If I was confident that it was going to be wrapped up after 7 books like he has been saying for years, then I would still be excited. But with the way this book has dragged I fear he has told a whole bunch of meaningless stories and the whole thing will drag on to at least book 8. And that would seem to imply another decade of waiting.
He enjoys telling lots of stories. In articles about his writing he often mentions how many ideas he has. It almost seems that his masterpiece is taking so long that he is putting those other ideas into this one just because that is what he is interested in getting on paper. I think he wants to finish ASoIaF, but there are lots of other things he wants to do too, and it is all getting jumbled together.
