Sven could have been given carte Blanche, and spent the whole year with the Flames. Might have got 35-40points. Could have been called a successful developmental year as a consensus. But that wasn't the right way.
I still think it was a good developmental year.
The reason I have suggested trading Sven is that there is a surplus of small left wingers in the organization. Specifically, I think Sven could be the centerpiece in trade for an additional top 5 pick (not involving the #4 pick).
Whether that's not the case or not, I hope Sven succeeds and takes advantage of his opportunities.
Regardless of how well Sven does, I'm pretty sure that almost every Flame fan can agree that there is no way that a future flames lineup will include all of Sven, Johnny, Granlund, Hudler, Reinhart, and Backlund. Sure some of those players might bust, but be assured that this Flames regime some or all of these players for size.

Well said. You have to trade from a position of strength and if we have a surplus anywhere, it's smallish/skilled LW'ers. And in order to get quality, you (typically) need to give quality. I don't see including Sven in trade talks as 'hate' but more being realistic in what other GM's would be interested in acquiring.
