I am by no means a mechanic (or even mechanically inclined, really), so don't take the following as a really definitive answer.
When the blower went out on my 2000 Malibu it turned out that the fuse had blown; not sure if the wires to the motor would have power if the fuse is gone, but worth a look. I don't suppose you have the manual that tells you where all the fuses are? I couldn't find any quick references online to help locate where it is on yours (it was on the passenger side panel with mine, a small 15 amp one).
If you can verify that the motor works by hooking it directly up to power, the next thing to look at would probably be the blower resistor...not sure how to check if it's gone or not. Past that, I got nothing.
