That's crazy, but sadly not totally shocking. I am somewhat surprised to hear the age level though (although I suppose I shouldn't be), I've done these tournaments before and the only two I had that were completely issue free in that regard were the 6-8 year old range (plus the hockey moms are way hotter, an added ocular bonus when you're stuck at a rink for 12+hrs/day all weekend). I found once they got to the hitting levels is when the crazy really comes out in the stands. But maybe I just got lucky with those groups, I suppose crazy is crazy, no matter what level you're at.
On a complete side note, talking about this reminded me of a CBC comedy mini-series a few years back, called
The Tournament. I only caught the last episode (there's 6), but I laughed my butt off, it really nails the wide range of insane hockey parents and all the silly politics that go on, with a healthy dose of Canadiana mixed in. Recommend.
