Bunk do you work near anyone responsible for pathway closures/signage?

This week was a total joke.

For a bunch of commuters coming from the East side of downtown, there is a pathway closure at Sien Lok (sp?) park, and a road closure on 2nd ave that makes that area a bit of a pain. No big deal.

Just go home across Prince's Island bridge and use the North river path, right?

Wrong.

Head East on the North river path, and you are greeted with a "Sidewalk closed" sign at the Centre Street underpass. Not really sure what that means... the gates aren't closed, like when the water is high or there is construction, and the underpass is totally passable. There is a "Sidewalk closed" sign on the other side too, facing the other way. No biggy.

But there's more...

Now there is a section of orange construction fencing, strung from the curb all the way to the river bank.

So either you turn back and go all the way back to Prince's Island, or you hop onto a very busy Memorial Drive so you can walk/bike/run around this stretch of fence. Don't worry, there is a second one later on too.

Oh and everything is closed at Memorial/Edmonton trail to finish off your lovely ride.

I understand construction is necessary, and all of the river bank rehab probably has some pretty tight timelines, but letting people head halfway home before finding out their route is impassible is really dumb. You probably have people out right now trying bike commuting for the first time if this is their first spring in the area and they are not going to feel like this is a city trying to encourage active mode commuting.

Dumping people out onto a busy roadway with no warning just seems downright dangerous. Cars aren't expecting to have to deal with people hopping on to the road on that stretch of Memorial.

What's the deal?
