Smaller players are often smarter about protecting themselves as well as more elusive. A hulk like Eric Lindros was used to running over people and thought he was invulnerable. Once other players discovered he had a glass jaw, they realized how easy it was to hit such a large target and it made a satisfying thump too. Crash and bang forwards also often hurt themselves trying for the 'big' hit.
