That was the year the Flames were going into the season with Bouwmeester, Regehr, Phaneuf, Giordano, Sarich, and Pardy on the blueline. He was traded late in the pre-season, I assume it was a trade similar to the Colborne deal where they knew he wouldn't clear waivers, but didn't want to tie up a roster spot on him.
The Flames got the pick that became Max Reinhart for him. He was acquired as part of the deal that sent Wayne Primeau to Toronto, so the team received a decent return considering the cost.

Thanks for that, was curious about why would have let him go. In hindsight I would have rather held on to him than Pardy but I definitely prefer Reinhart over both.
So essentially Sutter turned Primeau into Max Reinhart...not a bad return
