I really get the impression that the board truly believes their own hype. I think they truly believe that what they are doing is the best path. They probably just think they get unlucky breaks. From what I gather, it has been known for quite some time that they were going to lose money because they went through a lot of coaches and management changes and never could catch up because the incoming cash flow was dropping. I think at one time they had three coaches and two GMs on payroll due to firings.

I could never figure out how Darren Stocker got the job as GM. He was the business manager, went to school the same time as I did to get his management degree (I changed to something else). I didn't think he had any hockey background and when I asked how he got the job I was told that he had a couple buddies on the board. I didn't think that he was doing a very good job with the team and was happy to have him gone.

I initially bought into the hype of Stasiuk as the GM, but it became quickly apparent that he was a PR nightmare for the team. He was a hockey guy, which is what the team needed, but a hot head. It sounds like the board really got involved in the day to day operations during his tenure because Stasiuk couldn't control his temper.

Now, it is just the norm for them to be so involved in the operations that they don't know any differently. It is so out of control that you are hard pressed to find people happy with the team. A lot of long time fans are probably secretly hoping for the team to do worse, if that is possible. It was very disheartening to hear that the current structure was going to remain in place. If my kids want to go, well, I guess I'll find some free tickets to go, but I'm not giving the team any money until there is changes, and I'm not talking about on-ice success.
